How do I find children's books?
I need a children's book about a topic. How do I find what you have?
Answer
Print Children's Books
Finding print children's books on a topic is basically like finding any books on a specific topic, with a tweak to limit your results to children's titles. It is recommended that you use print books because the print selection includes the most desirable titles and because if you are looking for books suitable for early childhood, these are easy to identify this way.
Search in EasySearch for the topic you need.
Select the Library Catalog search index to restrict results to materials in our collections.
Click on the Location facet (left sidebar) and select Children's Collection. This will limit your results to items ONLY in our physical children's collection.
Now all of the results should be books on from the Children's Collection.
Children's eBooks
If you need to use online books, you can also limit your search to find these in EasySearch as well.
On your initial search in the Library Catalog, add the term "juvenile" to your search. This is the term used to indicate children's titles in the database. But this term identifies all titles recommended up to and including some Young Adult works, so you will have to check that the titles are appropriate for the age group of younger readers you are serving.
