How do I cite my sources for a project?
Answer
1. Make sure that you know what type of citations you need to use. Check the assignment or ask your instructor to be sure.
The two main citations styles required by DACC instructors are MLA and APA.
2. Make sure that you understand what types of sources you are using. Is it a web page, a blog post, a magazine article on the web or in a library database? It can be difficult to identify source types, so ask your instructor, writing center tutor, or librarian for help.
Be Careful: Many sources will have a CITE link that will format a citation for you. But these tools often include errors. Sample citations may not reflect the version of the citation style (APA 7, for example) that your instructor requires or may contain errors because the citations are created by a computer script. It is wise to validate these citations against style guides.
2. You are strongly encouraged to use Noodletools, a program that helps you assemble citations by filling in the necessary information from each original source into a form. It handles the punctuation and formatting.
