How do I get the full text of an article?

Answer

The answer depends on where you are searching. Almost all full text access provided through the library requires you to log in with your DACC user name and password. If you haven't done so, start there.

In EasySearch, once you click on the title of a resource to see the full information, you click on the title of the database to see the full text.

Click on the database name to get the full text.

If you only see "Request this item through interlibrary loan", we do not have access to the full text.

Clicking the link will take you to a form to request a copy from another library. Requests for articles are typically filled electronically within 24 hours, although it may take longer.

If you are using a specific database (or set of databases, like EBSCOhost), you may need to look for links around the edge of the information page.

In EBSCOhost, these are labelled HTML and PDF.

If EBSCO doesn't include full text, you'll see a link to an interlibrary loan request form as well as a link to jump you into EasySearch so you can check to see if the full text is available in another DACC database.

In the Gale databases, your results are restricted to full text automatically. You must uncheck a box to search non-full text content.

If you are searching the open web using Google or Google Scholar, you will often run into paywalls that prevent you from viewing the full text of articles. In these cases, copy all of the information about the article (title, author(s), date published, publisher or publication name.) You can use the article title and search in EasySearch to see if we have the full text. If not, contact the library. We will try to locate a copy for you.
